When we think of men’s fashion in the workplace, many of us assume that the proper professional attire for men is boiled down to the traditional suit-and-tie, which is understandable since most professions require that one look “professional”. But that was how things once were. In 2015, men’s fashion is viewed (and even accepted) as an extension of one’s personal style that can be infused with one’s professionalism. These days, men can be stylish yet comfortable, eschewing the traditional male work attire for something a bit less stuffy. Here are some of the trends for men’s fashion in the modern workplace.

Lose the Tie

Lose the Tie

Ties have long been considered a staple of men’s professional attire, but the days of besuited men working in offices a la Mad Men are gone. As the traditional workplace has evolved in recent years, many professional Millennial men have ditched the tie in favor of a more casual look. A sleek, stylish suit (sans tie) will still give you a business-professional look, particularly when complemented with the right shirt and accessories. The Millennial generation also has a taste for style and comfort, hence losing the tie in a professional setting. Not every guy has the luxury of dressing more casually at work while maintaining a professional edge. It’s been said that “the clothes make the man”, and if it’s any indication of how up-and-coming young male professionals are dressing for work, that means “lose the tie”.

Casuality

Casuality

Depending on the profession, some guys have the opportunity to dress stylishly casual for work. For those lucky enough to do this, there are several ways to dress like a casual professional. Rather than a suit or sports jacket, try a sweater or cardigan. Particularly in the cooler months, a sweater is more versatile than a heavy coat or jacket. Of course, some comfortable slacks (in various colors) and a well-tailored dress shirt maintains a “professional” air, but will keep guys comfortable throughout the day. Don’t forget shoes. The casual professional male is inspired by the Italians when it comes to what’s on their feet: keep the shoes simple, from sandals and loafers to dress shoes, and don’t wear socks. The Millennial mantra of men’s fashion in the modern workplace is that professional men’s attire is supposed to be comfortable while allowing you to remain productive and professional.

Bag

What’s in Your Bag?

The modern male may go into the office dressed either professionally or casually, but one accessory that every guy could use is a stylish bag. From leather to canvas and more, bags are the new briefcase. Many modern professional men complement their attire with bags that are versatile enough to go to the office, gym, or on any excursion, urban or otherwise. There are a variety of luxury bags for men to suit any style. So, what’s in your bag?

So there are some of the fashions that men in the modern workplace are into. Whether you want to keep it professional with an edge or go more casual and comfortable, there are so many ways that men can dress for success in the modern workplace. How do you dress for work?
